Reporting for duty…

This second 1%EVENT equals two firsts for me: first time I attend and the first time ever I’m guest blogging. So I’m very excited and really honoured I was asked to be your fly on the wall and report back to you during the event.

I’m Gisèle Mambre, e-coordinator @ Oxfam Novib, a partner of 1%Club. At Oxfam Novib we co-operate with anyone who believes in people’s own initiative: private donors, governments, businesses, the organisations of people in developing countries. And we are looking for innovative ways to help them (people in developing countries) develop themselves. We are especially interested in International Co-Operation in combination with Web 2.0, the so called International Development 2.0. Where we use ICT tools, techniques and models to achieve our number one goal: a world without poverty. Hence our partnership with the 1% CLUB, Butterfly Works and the other organisations of the IMPACT alliance.

What do I expect of the 1%EVENT?

Of course I should say that I’m especially looking forward to hear all the inspiring speeches. And I do. But mostly I’m interested in what the participants have to say. So I expect to be inspired by the massive collaboration and crowdsourcing that will be going on during the day. And I hope I can inspire some of you with my own stories, experiences.

What can you expect of me?

My objective is to make sure you miss as little  as possible. I’ll be (together with my co-bloggers) your eyes and ears and report back to you. If  there is anything specific you want to know or hear more about? Let me know…

Really looking forward to Friday! And to meet you there!

Gisèle

PS I solemnly promise to keep the Dunglish to a minimum ;-)

The gradual change of the landscape we live in

There is a lot being published about the social web. And we at the 1%CLUB are living it. But I can understand that people are tempted to say that they’ve read, seen and heard it all. I’m already an active participant isn’t that enough? Isn’t 90% of all published content just repeating what has been said before?

Yes, almost everything has been said before, and there is a lot of repetition.
But… never in the context of “now”. And that’s a very important aspect. We are just beginning to understand the new ways of interaction between people and between people and organisations. Everything written is a welcome building block. And the great thing is, although there are some architects with a strong vision, nobody exactly knows what we are building. We are already living in this unfinished building, bringing new insight, however small. Sharing that insight and talking about it is crucial so we can make the next step together and improve upon it. That’s why this blogpost (content) isn’t king anymore, but the conversation it generates is. Content is static. Conversation is movement and we are on the move!

Here is a presentation generously shared by wearesocial.net about how communication transforms from broadcast to networks. I think it has added value. What do you think?
